Peter-Pan Loop
Peter Pan is a single track that gently slopes along the ridge of a hill. Although it requires effort to reach the top, most of the trail is an easy jeep track. There’s a brief steep section before the peak, but the 360-degree view from the top is worth the climb and offers a chance to rest. The descent is a fun, flowing ride down the single track, taking you back to the starting point.
10Km Savanna Plains
The 10km Savanna Plains is a moderately easy trail that can be tackled in either direction. The route starts and ends on the same jeep track, offering a warm-up before leading into a fun, meandering single track. Notable sections of the trail are Mufasa, Pumba and Serengeti. The trail climbs 88 meters, reaching a maximum elevation of 1,824 meters, providing a relaxed yet enjoyable experience.
Namway
This un-presuming 14km track follows only jeep track (almost in the shape of Namibia), but do it twice, and it is sure to get the legs burning. Two loops will give you almost the same distance and elevation gain (about 500m) as the infamous Kupferberg climb.
It starts and ends at the Kleine Kuppe gate and follows an anticlockwise rotation along the Leopard’s Loop jeep track until you reach the Caprivi Jeep Track intersection. A long steady climb eastward along Caprivi jeep track lets you feel the majestic rise of the Auas mountains foothills. Keep a lookout for the resident Black Eagle pair (Aquila Verreauxii) often circling on the thermals above you.
The climb finally ends at the intersection with Pony Jeep Track and the much anticipated descend gives your legs a breather. Follow Pony Jeep Track up to the Homestead and from there take the Kleine Kuppe Jeep Track all the way down to the start. Ready for round two?
Butterfly Loop
Named for its butterfly-like shape when viewed from above, this 16km trail is perfect for those new to longer distances and looking to challenge their endurance. After completing the first ‘wing’ or half of the trail, you can turn back if it feels too strenuous. The trail can also be varied by following a figure-eight pattern, starting from the end and doing it in reverse. It ascends 306 meters, reaching a maximum elevation of 1,900 meters.
Fireball Loop
This trail features steep inclines and declines on a narrow path leading to the mountain’s peak, where you’ll find excellent viewpoints. The return journey includes an easier section on a wide gravel road. The route involves a total ascent of 196 meters, with the highest point reaching 1,908 meters in elevation. It’s a short but challenging route that rewards you with stunning scenery.
4Km Easy Wake Up
This route starts from the Kleine Kuppe gate with the Leopards’ Loop jeep track and does a short winding climb along the Red Ridge single track to meet the flowing Peter Pan trail midway. A relaxing trundle on a steady downward slope which takes you back to the Kleine Kuppe gate again. Perfect for full moon rise vistas. This route is also suitable for a nice easy trail run and quick fun mountain bike burst.
