Rules of Conduct
- General Rules of Conduct
1.1 Access control
Enter the farm only at the designated entry points. Confining entry to the access points greatly aids in detecting the movement of poachers & unwanted individuals. Only access the trails during opening hours. There is no access allowed to the trails after it is closed. Avoid coming and going just before sunset, or avoid arriving before sunrise. Always have your valid ‘membership’/ ’subscription’/ ’visitor pass’ on you.
1.2 Respect others
Respect other members/visitors/staff of the facilities at all times and where possible offer assistance and report if somebody is in need or injured. Be friendly, courteous and respectful to your fellow trail users, poor conduct will not be tolerated. Keep out of the facility if your ability is impaired through the use of drugs or alcohol. It is good practice to let a friend or family member know when you are heading out onto the trails, the planned route and the estimated excursion duration. In case of an unplanned breakdown or injury, they can then alert us at the emergency contact number (+264814113127) so we can locate and assist you if necessary.
1.3 Respect the environment
Do not collect or cut wood, create fires, hunt, trap, shoot, or camp. Do not disturb or rearrange the natural environment such as rocks, stones, stumps, bushes trees, nests, dens etc. Respect your environment, please take your litter home with you! Avoid taking unnecessary valuables with you. Any valuables are at all times handled at the owner’s own risk. - Rules of Conduct for Cyclists
2.1 Trails are for the enjoyment of all members/visitors/staff. Be courteous and respectful when encountering fellow trail users.
2.2 Inform others you are behind them and how many are in your group.
2.3 Keep speeds down to avoid frightening others.
2.4 Always Yield Trail (Yielding means slowing down, establishing communication, being prepared to stop if necessary, and passing safely). Let fellow trail users know you’re coming. A friendly greeting or bell is considerate and works well; don’t startle others. Show your respect when passing by slowing to a walking pace or even stopping. Anticipate other trail users around corners or in blind spots.
2.5 Never Scare Animals. All animals are startled by an unannounced approach, a sudden movement, or a loud noise. This can be dangerous for you, others, and the animals. Give animals extra room and time to adjust to you. When passing horses, use special care and follow directions from the horseback riders (ask if you are uncertain). Leave gates as you found them, or as marked.
2.6 Plan Ahead. Know your equipment, your ability, and the area in which you are riding – and prepare accordingly. Be self-sufficient at all times, keep your equipment in good repair, and carry necessary supplies.
2.7 Avoid skidding when braking. It can destroy vegetation and create erosion problems.
2.8 All our trails are two-way trails. People can travel in either direction. Always yield for oncoming fellow trail users by slowing down and moving off the trail. - Rules of Conduct for Dog Walkers
3.1 Only well-socialized and non-aggressive dogs are allowed. Please consider that another trail user may not be as fond of dogs and that people, especially small children, can find dogs intimidating.
3.2 Dogs must be kept in sight and under control at all times. All dogs must wear a collar with identification and contact details and have up-to-date vaccinations as contact with people, other dogs, livestock and game is likely.
3.3 All dog waste must be collected and properly disposed of in the green bins along the paths around the entrance areas. Consider all trail users (runners, cyclists, walkers) and keep the trails in clean and tidy condition.
3.4 Dogs must be kept under close control where livestock or game are present. Permitting your dog to chase, injure, or kill any form of wildlife or livestock is an offence. In the event that dogs are threatening or interfering with wildlife or the enjoyment of other trail users, the owner and their dog(s) will be instructed to leave the farm, and the respective ‘membership’/ ’subscription’/ ’visitor pass’ of relevant dog owners may be cancelled in certain instances, and at the discretion of the IJG Trails team.
