ACCESS CARDS AND MEMBERSHIP FEES

The maintenance, development and security of IJG Trails is only possible through the support of its Visitors, Members  and Sponsors.  Annually almost 8 000 hrs are spent on trail building and maintenance, whilst over 20 000 hrs are spent patrolling and securing the area.  The passion and dedication of our staff is relentless and they will continue their endeavours to make IJG Trails the best it can be.

Conduct for dog walkers

What to do with your dog

Dog walkers

Only well-socialized and non-aggressive dogs are allowed. All dogs must wear a collar with identification and contact details.

Dogs must be kept in sight and under close control at all times.  Please consider that another trail user may not be as fond of dogs and that people, especially small children, can find dogs intimidating.

All dog waste must be collected and properly disposed of in the green bins along the paths around the entrance areas. Consider all trail users (runners, cyclists, walkers) and keep the trails in clean and tidy condition.

Dogs must be kept under close control where livestock or game are present. Permitting your dog to chase, injure or kill any form of wildlife or livestock is an offence. In the event that dogs are threatening or interfering with wildlife or the enjoyment of other trail users, the owner and their dog(s) will be instructed to leave the farm.

Conduct for cyclists

What to do when cycling

Cyclists

Trails are for the enjoyment of all visitors.  Please be courteous and respectful when encountering fellow trail users. Inform others you are behind them and how many are in your group.  Keep speeds down to avoid frightening other visitors.

Always Yield Trail (Yielding means slowing down, establishing communication, being prepared to stop if necessary, and passing safely). Let fellow trail users know you’re coming. A friendly greeting or bell is considerate and works well; don’t startle others. Show your respect when passing by slowing to a walking pace or even stopping. Anticipate other trail users around corners or in blind spots.

All our trails are two-way trails – people can travel in either direction. Always yield for oncoming fellow trails users by slowing down and moving off the trail.

Never Scare Animals. All animals are startled by an unannounced approach, a sudden movement, or a loud noise. This can be dangerous for you, others, and the animals. Give animals extra room and time to adjust to you. When passing horses, use special care and follow directions from the horseback riders (ask if you are uncertain).

Leave gates as you found them, or as marked.

Plan Ahead. Know your equipment, your ability, and the area in which you are riding – and prepare accordingly. Be self-sufficient at all times, keep your equipment in good repair, and carry necessary supplies.

Avoid skidding when braking.  It can destroy vegetation and create erosion problems.

General conduct

What to do when on IJG Trails

General conduct

Enter the farm only at the designated entry points.  Confining entry to the access points greatly aids in detecting the movement of poachers & unwanted individuals. Park at either of the main gates where the gate guard is on duty.

Avoid coming and going just before sunset, or avoid arriving before sunrise.

Avoid taking unnecessary valuables with you.  Always have your access card on you.

Respect other users of the facilities at all times and where possible offer assistance and report if somebody is in need or injured.

Do not collect or cut wood, create fires, litter, hunt, trap, shoot or camp.

Keep gates closed at all times.

Report any suspicious activity, injured persons & animals, and broken/dangerous infrastructure.

Avoid getting too close to the perimeter where construction is on-going.

It is good practice to let a friend or family member know when you are heading out onto the trails, your planned route and estimated excursion duration.  In case of an unexpected breakdown or injury, they can alert us on the emergency number to locate and assist you if necessary.
